The Swarovski Foundation is answering to an emergency appeal for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to urgently raise funds for UNFPA’s life-saving assistance to mothers and their children in Yemen this Giving Tuesday.

The humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains the worst in the world. The country faces an escalating conflict, a collapsing economy, a depreciating currency, as well as recent torrential rains and flooding, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a fuel crisis. An estimated 24.1million people – over 80 per cent of the population – are in need of some form of assistance. Around the country, hundreds of health facilities have been shuttered or are only partially operational.

Women face the brunt of this catastrophe: A woman in Yemen dies in childbirth every two hours, on average. UNFPA is helping to empower midwives to save lives, providing emergency clinical services, and distributing clean delivery kits containing simple items that can help a woman deliver safely if she cannot access a health facility. The Swarovski Foundation will match all Giving Tuesday donations to UNFPA up to $60,000 through December 7.

CONTRIBUTIONS SAVE LIVES:

  • $5 can ensure a clean delivery for 1 pregnant woman and her baby
  • $25 can ensure a clean delivery for 5 pregnant women and their babies
  • $60 can support a midwife with all she needs to help safely deliver 3 babies

If this campaign resonates with you, we encourage you to learn more, donate or share the campaign with your global and local colleagues, social networks, family and friends. If we all come together, we can make a great impact during this festive season.
