The Swarovski Foundation is supporting long-standing charity partner UK for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to provide emergency relief in Türkiye and Syria following the devastating earthquakes that struck the region in February 2023.
Two powerful earthquakes struck south-eastern Türkiye and northern Syria on the 6th February 2023. Thousands of lives have been lost, homes have been destroyed and vital infrastructure, including hospitals and roads have been damaged. The Swarovski Foundation is supporting UK for UNHCR, enabling teams that are on the ground in Türkiye and Syria to provide emergency aid to families in the wake of the devastation.
As days and hours pass, the true scale of the crisis is becoming clearer, and we want to reach out to our community who are able to help people caught up in this unimaginable disaster.
Right now, UNHCR teams are working in extremely difficult conditions to deliver lifesaving assistance and shelter to refugees, displaced families, and host communities. UNHCR staff on the ground are distributing emergency aid, including tents, blankets, mattresses, hygiene items, and other lifesaving assistance.
Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees shares:
“We at UNHCR stand in solidarity with the people of Türkiye and Syria affected by the devastating earthquake and are ready to help provide urgent relief to the survivors through our field teams wherever possible.”
The Swarovski Foundation has been a longstanding partner of UNHCR with ongoing support for those forced to flee. Previously, the Swarovski Foundation has supported young refugees in Greece to receive vocational training and language courses and more recently UNHCR’s life-saving work in Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, South Sudan, and Pakistan.
